Learn: ® Rapid STEMI ID Course

Course Description:

Learn: Rapid STEMI ID is a self-directed, online course that teaches healthcare professionals to use a 12- lead ECG, interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs) for signs of STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) and activate a system of care for rapid reperfusion of an occluded coronary artery. This course supports the efforts of the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline®, a national initiative to improve quality of care and outcomes in heart attack patients by improving healthcare systems’ readiness and response to STEMI patients.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the STEMI chain of survival.

  • List immediate action steps to identify patients with symptoms of ACS and ECG findings of STEMI to reduce time to reperfusion.

  • Describe the anatomy of the heart.

  • Define ACS and Pathophysiology.

  • Identify symptoms that may be ischemic in etiology.

  • Distinguish the difference between ACS and MI.

  • Describe how to acquire a technically good 12 lead.

  • Differentiate a normal 12 lead ECG from a 12 lead with ischemic/injury changes.

  • Identify patterns of ECG abnormalities.

  • Identify patterns of ECG abnormalities that require rapid reperfusion and team activation.
